KOTA KINABALU: The number of flood victims in Sabah has increased to 400 people from 125 families as of 9 am today, compared to 391 people from 126 families on Saturday (Sep 13).

The Sabah Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, said the number of flood victims had, however, dropped to 247 victims (74 families) in Penampang, while the number of flood victims in Beaufort increased to 153 people (51 families).

The victims in Penampang are evacuated to the relief centres at the Penampang Sports Complex (36 people from six families), Dewan Huguan Siau (147 people from 49 families), and Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis (64 people from 19 families).

Meanwhile, all flood victims in Beaufort are at the permanent relief centre in Selagon.

“A total of 22 villages have been affected by the floods, with 14 villages in Penampang and eight in Beaufort,” read the statement on Sunday (Sept 14).

Meanwhile, the Sabah JPBN also announced that a slope on Jalan Donggongon Papar Spurs had collapsed, making Jalan Papar towards Kota Kinabalu completely impassable.

“The public is advised to take an alternative route to Kota Kinabalu,” it said.

Motorists going to Kota Kinabalu can use Jalan Papar-Kinarut-Lok Kawi.

According to the committee, flash floods hit several areas in Kota Kinabalu late last night, including Sembulan, Lido, Kolombong, Likas and Manggatal, following continuous heavy rain since Saturday evening. – Bernama
