KUALA LUMPUR: An additional 26,460 Electric Train Service (ETS) tickets will be made available for the Chinese New Year travel period of Feb 13-22.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said this would increase the ETS operations to the maximum of 52 trips daily.
“Sales of the additional tickets will open on Jan 29,” he said at KL Sentral, here, yesterday.
As for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Loke said around 44 per cent of the tickets had been sold to date.
He said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) would also provide eight extra ETS services on March 13- 29 for selected routes.
“This will also bring the total ETS operations during Hari Raya Aidilfitri to a maximum of 52 trips daily. Sales of the additional tickets will open on March 1.”
Meanwhile, Loke said Klang Valley commuters would enjoy free public transport on Jan 31 and Feb 1 in conjunction with the Thaipusam celebrations.
However, he said passengers would still need to tap in and out using their KITS Style, Komuter Link, Touch ‘n Go, debit or credit cards.
He said KTMB’s Komuter service to the Batu Caves station would run round the clock from Jan 30 to Feb 2, benefiting the expected 2.5 million visitors.
“This initiative is expected to benefit up to 700,000 users, particularly those travelling to experience the uniqueness of the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves,” he said.
Loke also said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, through Rapid KL and Rapid Penang, would also provide free shuttle bus services in Kuala Lumpur and Penang during the period.
In Kuala Lumpur, 30 shuttle buses will operate from the Pasar Seni City Hub, LRT Gombak station and MRT Kampung Batu station to Batu Caves, with a frequency of one every 10 minutes.
In Penang, Rapid Penang will provide free services from the ferry terminal to Penang Adventist Hospital using 12 buses, while the Penang Port Commission and Penang Port Sdn Bhd will offer free ferry services from Jan 31 until 3am on Feb 2.
On Feb 1, BAS.MY operators will provide additional free services in Johor Baru, Seremban, Ipoh, Kota Setar and Sungai Petani to facilitate Hindu devotees travelling to nearby temples.
