Montblanc, the luxury pen manufacturer, is stepping into the e-ink writing tablet market with the Montblanc Digital Paper. The tablet also includes a digital writing implement whose design is based on the brand’s very own Meisterstück line of pens.
To start off, the Digital Paper features a black-and-white e-ink screen and an aluminium body with a leather side bar on the left-hand side of the device; all in all, the tablet measures in at 4.9mm x 191mm x 222mm and weighs in at 473g. The sidebar features a relatively shallow docking station where the pen attaches magnetically and charges wirelessly.
There isn’t much in the way of internals; mainly a 64GB internal storage. It is powered by a 3,740mAh battery that can be charged by USB-C, but there is no mention of how long it can last. Other specifications for the Montblanc device are the Wi-Fi 2.4G & 5G and the Bluetooth 5.4 that is used exclusively for the Digital pen.
Speaking of the pen, the brand boasts that the supplied implement has a haptic engine and is capable of “over 4,000” levels of pressure sensitivity. Furthermore, the Digital Pen features three interchangeable tips to suit the user’s preference.
Additionally, Montblanc is selling the Digital Paper Folio, a calf leather case that can be attached magnetically to the tablet. When closed, the cover lies flat with the screen, save for a protruding dome that can be found directly above where the pen rests.
The Digital Paper is priced at RM4,100 and will be available in three different colours: black, grey, and gold. The Digital Paper Folio, on the other hand, retails for RM910 and comes in four different colours, which are blue, off-white, black, and brown. Montblanc is also giving the option for people to buy the pen and replacement tips separately, priced at RM1,230 and RM185, respectively; both are available in grey, black, and ivory.
