KUALA LUMPUR:

Monash University Malaysia (Monash University) will partner with TRX City to deliver a RM2.8 billion local investment in a future Monash campus in Kuala Lumpur.

The investment is expected to contribute RM19.1 billion to the local economy over the next decade through direct investments.

Monash University vice-chancellor and president Sharon Pickering is scheduled to announce the KL campus alongside Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese and higher education minister Zambry Abd Kadir.

In a statement, the university said the new campus is scheduled to open in 2032 and will accommodate up to 22,500 students and 1,700 staff by 2040, complementing the existing campus in Subang Jaya.

At least 35 additional courses will be offered at the campus in fields vital to Malaysia and the future global workforce, such as digitisation, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, climate change and sustainability, healthcare and digital health, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing, banking and finance.

From its inaugural cohort of 417 in 1998, Monash University Malaysia now hosts more than 11,000 students from over 80 countries.
