Modern Racing duo narrowly claim touring production title

KUALA LUMPUR: Wong Yew Choong and guest driver Hii Wan Jian settled for fifth in the Malaysia Touring Car Championships’ (MTCC) season-ending 300km endurance race today but it was enough to secure them the overall title in the touring production class.

The Modern Racing Team duo, piloting a Honda Civic FK8, crossed the line 24.349 seconds adrift of race winners Leon Khoo-Lai Wee Sing (R-Engineering) at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit.

Yew Choong-Wan Jian’s fifth place bagged them another 12 points and was just enough to secure the overall title in the TP class on 109 points.

Jonathan Xie (OPM Lite X-Skuber Race Team), who finished second in the final race, settled for second overall in the championship on 108 points while Leon-Wee Sing were third (93 points).

Faidzil Alang (Super Power Lubricants by Papaya) finished third in the race today.

The TP2 class overall title went to Chiow Teck Song (R-Engineering) who amassed 113 points this season.

Japan’s Ken Urata (Rworks Riyoz Racing) came in second overall (82 points) while Singapore’s Jonathan Lee (BAE Racing) was third this season (71 points).

With the MTCC season now done and dusted, Malaysian touring car racers will now shift their attention to the Sepang 1,000 kilometre race which will be held on Nov 28-30.
