PONTIAN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Johor has arrested two Indonesian men who were attempting to enter the country illegally by sea.
According to acting Johor MMEA director, Captain Kama Azri Kamil, the arrests were made at 12.30am about 2.3 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Piai. A patrol team detected a fibreglass boat without a registration number moving from the Indonesian border in Karimon towards Tanjung Piai.
The two men, aged 38 and 51, did not have valid travel documents. They are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering Malaysian waters without legal permission.
Kama Azri said MMEA would continue to strengthen its enforcement efforts at sea to prevent illegal activities, including smuggling and the entry of undocumented migrants. He urged the public to report any information or complaints about crimes at sea to the MERS 999 emergency line or to the Johor State Maritime Operations Centre at 07-2199401.
