PETALING JAYA: An oil tanker operating in Malaysian waters has been detained by the Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) after the captain failed to present the necessary anchoring permissions.
Selangor MMEA director, Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 31), explained that the vessel was stopped following a complaint from the Port Klang Authority.
The MMEA patrol boat inspected the tanker at 3pm on Tuesday (Dec 30). Its crew, all Indonesians aged 21 to 59, was detained.
The vessel was halted approximately 0.9 nautical miles west of Port Klang. Although the crew had valid identification, the captain could not provide a valid anchoring permit.
As a result, the vessel was apprehended, and the captain was taken in by the state MMEA for further questioning. Captain Salleh urged all vessels to comply with Malaysian regulations and apply for anchoring permits from the Malaysian Marine Department.
