A MINOR 3.2-magnitude earthquake rattled Segamat and surrounding areas yesterday morning, sparking concern among residents although no damage or injuries were reported.
The tremor at 8.59am was centred near Segamat, and felt across parts of Johor and southern Pahang.
The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said it was monitoring the situation.
Authorities said security and enforcement agencies were on the ground to ensure public safety.
The Segamat District Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
“Thus far, there have been no reports of property damage, casualties or loss of life,” it said.
The public are advised to obtain updates only from official government and MetMalaysia channels, and to report any emergencies directly to the authorities.
On Sunday, two earthquakes — the first measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale and the second at 2.8 — struck Segamat, a rare occurrence in the district.
Those tremors also caused no major damage, but raised awareness about the district’s susceptibility to regional seismic activity.
