KUALA LUMPUR: It seems MIC is still undecided over its position as a component party in Barisan Nasional.
Its deputy president, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, said the party’s Central Working Committee is expected to convene soon to determine its future political direction.
“MIC is the definitive voice of the Indian community and will continue to champion their interests, regardless of whether it holds positions in government or not.
“MIC‘s priority is to provide the best possible service to the community.
“Determining the party’s future direction is important to ensure that the strategies outlined remain relevant to the community’s current needs,” he said today.
It was previously reported that MIC delegates at the party’s 79th annual general meeting said they would leave it to president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran and the Central Working Committee to decide whether to leave BN, which MIC co-founded with Umno and MCA.
Vigneswaran was quoted in November last year as saying the matter rests with the Central Working Committee.
Saravanan added that whatever developments occur, MIC will remain steadfast in its commitment to championing the welfare of the Indian community.
He, who is also the Tapah member of Parliament, said the party’s mission is continuous and goes beyond political appointments.
