MIC to decide on BN ties after Thaipusam, says Saravanan


TAPAH: is expected to make a final decision on whether to leave Barisan Nasional () as early as next February, after the Thaipusam celebration.

deputy president Datuk Seri M. said this is taking into account the Indian community’s busy schedule, focusing on Thaipusam celebrations.

“So, we will decide after Thaipusam… possibly early or mid-February. This January, there is the General Assembly… so we settle that first,” he said.

, who is also the Tapah member of Parliament, said this to reporters at the presentation ceremony of agricultural equipment contributions to traders from the B40 group in Tapah Parliamentary constituency at the Tapah Division Building here today.

The contribution, with a total value of RM150,000, was in the form of canopy tents for 20 hawkers, chainsaws (eight), grass shredding machines (seven) and shoulder grass cutters (13), with recipients including hawkers, smallholders and livestock breeders.

Also present was Tapah chairman, who is also acting Tapah division chief, Khairul Azmi Ghazali.

Although there are rumours regarding a motion for MIC to leave BN, said the party’s relationship within the coalition remains peaceful and harmonious.

However, he said the final decision on whether MIC remains in BN or otherwise will be left to the party’s Supreme Council until the 16th General Election (GE16).

“That I leave to the Supreme Council… if I say to remain, people will think I am the one making the decision.

“But so far, we see everything is peaceful. So, we maintain the harmony. For now, MIC is still with BN,” he said.
