KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with the alert in effect until 6pm on Thursday (Aug 28).
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over the states of Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang and Perak
Storms could also be expected in Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut and Setiu), Pahang (Cameron Highlands) and Selangor.
Also affected are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Johor (Mersing)
In Sarawak, foul weather is expected in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan (including Samarahan and Asajaya), Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri (including Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi).
In Sabah, the interior regions (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, and Beaufort) and Labuan are also anticipated to experience similar weather conditions.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather information from MetMalaysia.
