KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are forecast across several regions in Malaysia, with warnings in effect until 7pm on Saturday (Aug 9), according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia stated in an update on its official website on Saturday that the warning covers parts of KEDAH, including Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, and Kulim.
In PERAK, the affected districts are Larut, Matang, and Selama, as well as Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim. In KELANTAN, the warning includes Jeli, Tanah Merah, and Gua Musang.
For TERENGGANU, the warning was in place for Besut, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman.
In PAHANG, it affects Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin.
In SELANGOR, the districts of Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat are under alert along with the Federal Territory of KUALA LUMPUR.
NEGRI SEMBILAN’s affected areas are Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin.
The warning also covers parts of JOHOR, namely Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.
In SARAWAK, affected divisions are Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Miri and Limbang.
For SABAH, the warning applies to Interior areas (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Keningau), West Coast (Ranau), Tawau (Tawau and Semporna), Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid and Beluran) and Kudat (Kota Marudu).
Federal Territory of LABUAN was also included in the warning.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
The warnings are short-term and remain in effect for no longer than six hours from the time they are issued.
