KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 — A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck Leyte, the Philippines, at 9.59pm yesterday, with tremors also felt around Sandakan, Sabah.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement last night said the earthquake occurred about 50 kilometres north-west of Ormoc, the Philippines.
According to MetMalaysia, the strong quake was recorded at a depth of 10km.
However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
