MESF seeks RM6 million funding for 2026 esports push

Malaysia Esports Federation requests RM6 million from ministry to fund tournaments and athlete development ahead of a packed 2026 international calendar.

SEPANG: The Malaysia Esports Federation is seeking at least RM6 million from the Youth and Sports Ministry to support tournaments and development this year.

President Muhammad Naim Al-Amin Saharuddin said the sector delivered strong results in 2025, including a world championship win in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

He highlighted a packed 2026 schedule featuring the IESF Nations Cup and the Asian Games in Japan as key reasons for the funding request.

“I believe this sum is sufficient to develop leagues across various esports titles,” he told reporters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

He added that athletes are often nurtured through third-party platforms or grassroots programmes.

“They need to be exposed to more tournaments so that we can produce more high-quality esports athletes,” he said.

Muhammad Naim was speaking after sending off Malaysian teams competing at the MLBB World Championship (M7).

He wished Red Giants and CG Esports the best for the tournament starting this month.
