KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has confirmed that the Melaka state election will be held this year, as the current term of the state government is set to expire.
He said the dissolution of the state legislative assembly would take place this year, paving the way for the polls.
“Whatever the term of the Melaka state government is, it will end this year. That’s all.
“Since it ends this year, the (state) election will be held this year,” he said after attending the Umno Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato Onn here.
The last Melaka state election was held on Nov 20, 2021.
Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the special Supreme Council meeting was convened as usual following the party’s Youth, Women’s and Puteri wing assemblies.
He said all Supreme Council members, as well as the vice presidents who attended the assemblies, presented reports on the motions during the meeting.
“We also discussed the motions raised. Another key agenda was to debate and deliberate on the President’s policy speech, which will become a Supreme Council motion to be presented by the president,” he said.
