Melaka Sees 52% Drop In Dengue Cases Thanks To Rukun Tetangga’s Community Efforts

MELAKA, Sept 18 (Bernama) — The active involvement of Rukun Tetangga (RT) community leaders in addressing public health concerns has seen a 52 per cent reduction in dengue fever cases in Melaka from Jan 1 to yesterday, compared to over 2,200 cases last year.

State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said the decline was achieved through cooperation between RT community leaders and the State Health Department via various anti-Aedes mosquito breeding programmes, as well as gotong-royong activities.

“This year, until yesterday, dengue fever cases in Melaka dropped by about 800 cases compared to over 2,200 last year,” he said.

He told this to reporters after opening the Melaka-level Golden Jubilee Celebration of RT 2025. The event was attended by National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director-general Zulkifli Hashim and Melaka JPNIN director Intan Suhana Yusoff.

Earlier, he presented RT awards in four categories: the RT Gold Award, the Digital Friend Award, the Progressive RT Award and the Special Outstanding Leader Award. 

The RT Gold Award was presented to KRT Pekan Alor Gajah, KRT Pekan Masjid Tanah, and KRT Kampung Baru Machap Baru, while the Digital Friend Award went to KRT Krubong Heights. 

Meanwhile, the Progressive RT Award went to KRT Kampung Bukit Nibong, KRT Kampung Gadek, and KRT Kampung Berangan Enam. The recipients of the Special Outstanding Leader Award were P. Cheven for KRT in Melaka Tengah district, Azman Yahya (Alor Gajah) and Mokhtar Md Jadi (Jasin).
