The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has called on all parties to refrain from sharing, reposting or uploading content including pictures and videos related to the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old student yesterday.
In a statement, it urged members of the public to act responsibly with regards to any content showing the victim, other students, or the location at which the stabbing had occurred.
“If such content is uploaded, members of the public are advised to immediately delete it,” it said.
“The act of distributing pictures or videos of the victim not only violates the privacy and dignity of the families involved, but also undermines the ongoing police investigation.”
MCMC also warned that action could be taken over the distribution of such content under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
According to the police, the student, a girl in Form 3, was stabbed multiple times by the 14-year-old perpetrator.
The stabbing was said to have taken place at one of the female toilets at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) here.
Police arrested the suspect and confiscated two sharp weapons. The motive of the murder is still under investigation.
