PETALING JAYA:

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has lodged a police report over a suspicious package that was addressed to its chairman Salim Fateh Din.

MCMC said initial checks with the courier company revealed that the sender had registered under a false name and a certain mobile number since June.

“The company had also recorded 55 complaints against the sender, including 18 cases of unsolicited deliveries and 37 involving incomplete or failed deliveries,” the regulator said in a statement today.

It added that the package has since been withheld by the courier for police investigation.

“MCMC seriously views any form of suspicious delivery that may pose a threat and will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities to safeguard public safety and the integrity of institutions,” it said.

It also reminded the public to be wary if they received parcels from unknown sources or items they did not order.

Those with doubts should contact the authorities or courier companies for verification.
