JOHOR BARU: MCA has submitted its list of candidates for the upcoming Sabah state election to Barisan Nasional leadership, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said that although the names had already been submitted to the party leadership, the final decision would only be confirmed once Barisan issues the watikah (letter of authorisation).
“We have not finalised the seat negotiations yet, and normally for Barisan, this will be done about a week before.
“The names have been submitted, but that does not mean the individuals are confirmed as candidates.
“We must wait for the official credentials first. Whoever is ultimately chosen will be announced by the Barisan chairman,” he told the press when met during the Johor MCA annual convention on Sunday (Oct 26).
Asked whether Barisan would field young candidates in the coming state election, Dr Wee said it was among the possibilities.
He added that MCA is fully prepared for the polls with strong support from its local machinery.
“Preparations have been made. In fact, I just returned from Sabah.
“MCA has been established in Sabah for the past 34 years, mostly led by local Sabahan leaders, so there should be no issue,” he said, adding that he had just returned from the state after inspecting preparations.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 29 as polling day for the Sabah state election, with nomination day on Nov 15 and early voting on Nov 25.
