The 28-year-old beggar accused of stabbing another alms-seeker during a dispute outside a bank in Section 18, Shah Alam, yesterday afternoon has been remanded for seven days.
Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the suspect, who holds a disabled persons (OKU) card for a mental disability, had been placed under observation at Shah Alam Hospital after suffering seizures.
“The court approved a seven-day remand until May 1,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying in a statement today.
“The suspect’s remand hearing was held at the Shah Alam Hospital observation ward before magistrate Nur Azureen Zainalkefli at 3.15pm today.”
Iqbal said the 40-year-old victim, who wore a leg brace due to an accident three years ago, had no OKU card. He said the victim’s wife lived in Taman Sentosa and that she had worked as a security guard.
It was reported yesterday that an altercation occurred after the suspect wanted to ask for alms at the same spot as the victim.
After arguing over the spot, the suspect brandished a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the chest.
Police were alerted to the man’s death at noon, and arrested the suspect at the scene 30 minutes later.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
