PETALING JAYA:

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who is alleged to have assaulted a motorist while driving down Genting Highlands on Sunday.

Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said the incident occurred at about 9am while the victim was headed back to his home in Subang Jaya from Genting Highlands.

He said the suspect was driving his car in a dangerous manner, repeatedly hitting the brakes and blocking the victim’s way.

“After the victim managed to overtake the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect gave chase and collided into the rear of the victim’s vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Both drivers got down from their vehicles when the suspect suddenly punched the victim in the face.

Zaiham said the suspect had also hurt the victim’s neck.

The victim’s friends – a man and a woman, both aged 22 – broke up the altercation.

Police arrested the suspect at the district police headquarters. He was remanded for four days and released on bail yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, respectively, and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act for dangerous driving.
