Man killed in fiery crash on North-South Expressway


PRAI: A 28-year-old man was killed and another injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Km140.8 of the North-South Highway here today.

The man was riding a Yamaha 135 LC when his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle and a trailer in the 12.34pm incident.

He died on the spot after the impact caused his motorcycle to catch fire, with the blaze consuming about 95 per cent of the machine.

State Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director John Sagun Francis said the second motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

John said the trailer driver escaped unhurt.

“Firefighters from the Prai Fire and Rescue Station, supported by a unit from Bandar Perda, responded swiftly and brought the fire under control by 1.21pm.

“The operation concluded at 2.11pm with the body of the deceased handed over to the police for further action,” he added.
