Man found drowned near river embankment in Rantau Panjang


RANTAU PANJANG: A man was found drowned at the embankment of Sungai Kampung Lanchang here today.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was discovered at 7.55pm near the location where he had fallen.

Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander Hamdan Mamat said the station received an emergency call from a member of the public at 7pm.

He said eight personnel, including an officer, were deployed to the scene, and the fire engine arrived at 7.19pm.

“Upon arrival, a search and rescue operation was carried out. The initial phase of the search was conducted on the river’s surface.

“We sought assistance from the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA), and the victim was found at the spot where he had fallen. The body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement today.
