JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a man believed to be behind a robbery at a private clinic after finding a pistol fitted with a silencer, 175 bullets and drugs in his possession.

The 42-year-old suspect was detained with two women in a multi-purpose vehicle during a routine police patrol stop in Kulai at 1.20am on Aug 14.

Police found packets of syabu, heroin, ganja and ecstasy pills in his sling bag, while further checks uncovered a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a 9mm silencer, a magazine and 175 live rounds hidden in the car’s bonnet.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said checks showed that the man had a record of 23 past criminal- and drug-related offences, while the women, aged between 18 and 42, had two and 17 records respectively.

“Investigations also linked the suspect to a July 19 robbery at a private clinic in Masai,” he told reporters here today.

During the robbery, the man, armed with a pistol, forced a 43-year-old clinic worker to hand over cash and jewellery before escaping on a motorcycle and firing a shot.

A sling bag left behind at the scene contained heroin packets.

Urine tests showed the suspect was positive for methamphetamine and morphine, while the two women tested negative.

The case is being investigated under Sections 4 and 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Sections 39A(1) and 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
