KOTA KINABALU: A man who allegedly threatened a forensic pathologist on social media over the ongoing Zara Qairina Mahathir inquest has been arrested.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the 61-year-old was nabbed in Semporna at around 7am on Sunday (Sept 7) in the compound of the police station.

He said the suspect was believed to be behind the Facebook account that posted threats, among other comments, towards a forensic pathologist.

A mobile phone was also seized.

Comm Jauteh advised the public to exercise caution when posting on social media platforms and to act responsibly instead of issuing statements that could cause public unrest.

“Think before posting anything that may go against the law. The police take the use of responsible social media seriously and would not hesitate to take action against those who violate the law,” he said.

On Friday (Sept 5), 58-year-old forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu had lodged a police report over alleged online threats made against her.

She had testified in the inquest into the death of Papar schoolgirl Zara Qairina, and was informed by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital director about the online threats following her two-day testimony.

Zara Qairina, 13, was found unconscious on the ground floor of her school dormitory on July 16 and passed away a day later.
