PETALING JAYA:

Police have arrested a man after coaxing him down from the roof of a house in Semenyih, , where he had stood half-naked and brandishing a knife for nearly four hours last night.

Kosmo reported Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof as saying police received a call from a member of the public at 8.50pm.

He said police arrived at the scene to find the 48-year-old standing on the roof of a house wearing only a pair of shorts.

“After nearly four hours of police and firemen talking to the man, he was arrested and had his knife seized.

“The man is believed to have mental health issues and has been referred to Kajang Hospital for further action,” he said.

Naazron said the man had a record of 26 criminal offences, including drug abuse.

“He is not believed to be from Semenyih, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and how he came to be there,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.
