KUALA LUMPUR: Next year’s batch of Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) forces in Lebanon will be its last, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin says.
“This means we will send one last team next year. Following that, Malaysia will not have a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) presence there,” he said on Monday (Sept 8) when met during an official visit to Kem Perdana in Sungai Besi.
It has been reported that the UN Security Council (UNSC) mandate is set to expire in 2026.
In an unrelated matter, the Armed Forces expects to yield around six tonnes of produce annually, with an estimated income of approximately RM604,000 over the next two and a half years from the Madani Economy project.
During the working visit today, the minister was brought to the base’s produce and bee farms.
“At first, the project was run on a trial basis to gauge the interest of the personnel’s wives, and demand was high,” he said.
A total of RM10mil was allocated for the project, with half of the costs for the honey portion sponsored by Boustead Plantations.
