KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s challenge in the women’s doubles ended after Go Pei Kee–Teoh Mei Xing and Carmen Ting–Ong Xin Yee fell in the last eight of the Hylo Open in Saarbrucken on Friday.

World No. 22 Pei Kee–Mei Xing were forced to concede a walkover after Pei Kee’s calf injury flared up in the second game against former European junior champions Bengisu Ercetin–Nazlican Inci of Turkiye.

World No. 35 Ercetin–Inci won the first game 21-13 and were leading 14-13 in the second game when Pei Kee sought medical attention and threw in the towel after that.

National women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak said Pei Kee had suffered the injury at the French Open last week.

“Pei Kee suffered the calf injury last week and it started getting worse after the second round yesterday,” said Rosman.

“It didn’t get any better but they gave it a try. However, the injury restricted Pei Kee’s movement on court and she decided to stop. We didn’t want to make it any worse.”

Meanwhile, world No. 34 Carmen–Xin Yee suffered a 21-17, 21-16 defeat to Taiwan’s world No. 18 Hsu Yin Hui–Lin Jhih Yun in a 37-minute last-eight clash.
