KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society, including its large Chinese population, is among the key factors boosting bilateral tourism, following the implementation of a mutual visa-free policy, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Describing Malaysia as a uniquely beautiful country, he said the cultural connections, coupled with Malaysia’s vibrant economic growth and political stability, created a welcoming environment for Chinese tourists.
“Those who have not visited are losing. A major loss, because this (Malaysia) is a beautiful country, very friendly,” he said during an interview with Chinese broadcaster CGTN’s anchor Zheng Junfeng on the sidelines of his recent working visit to China.
Anwar also highlighted Malaysia’s unique position as a maritime nation, noting that the country offered year-round attractions, from mountains to beaches.
“We have beautiful beaches, but the difference is that you can swim any time of the year. There’s no winter, it’s always like summer throughout the year,” he added.
Meanwhile, Anwar also praised China‘s remarkable progress in modernising its agricultural sector, adding that Malaysia was learning from the country’s experience on mechanisation, modern farming and sustainable practices as key drivers in improving productivity and farmer welfare.
“In China, not only farming, but every single field has shown phenomenal progress that you can share. We are focusing quite a bit because some of the areas, for example, rural rice farmers, happen to be the most poverty stricken, and we need to do more,” he said. — Bernama
