SHANGHAI: Malaysia’s participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the organisation of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas)@Shanghai 2025 demonstrate the country’s strong commitment to exploring new markets and strengthening its economic presence in the region.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government’s efforts also pave the way for the exploration of new opportunities, particularly in the halal industry.
“China is among Malaysia’s most important trading partners.
“Through platforms such as CIIE and Mihas@Shanghai, we are not only strengthening bilateral economic relations but also creating more opportunities for Malaysia’s halal industry and SMEs to penetrate high-value global markets,” he said.
Zahid, who is also rural and regional development minister, said this in a statement after attending the opening ceremony of the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) today at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
CIIE is an initiative by the Chinese government that serves as a platform for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative to promote and export goods and services to the Chinese market.
Zahid’s presence at CIIE 2025 is part of his four-day working visit to Shanghai from Nov 4 to 7.
He said the visit also reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening economic, trade and investment relations with China.
“This aligns with the government’s policy of expanding Malaysia’s overseas market network, particularly in the halal and rural development sectors,” he said.
During the visit, Zahid is also scheduled to officiate Mihas@Shanghai 2025 on Thursday.
Mihas@Shanghai marks the second international edition of the showcase, following the success of Mihas@Dubai 2024.
