Malaysia’s Budget 2026 adopts comprehensive fiscal approach

Malaysia’s Dewan Rakyat approves Budget 2026 at policy stage with RM470 billion public expenditure, including RM338.2 billion for operating expenses.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat has passed the Supply Bill 2026 at the policy stage following extensive debate.

The budget was approved through a bloc vote with 120 Members of Parliament in favour, 67 against, and 35 absent.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim originally tabled the bill on October 10.

Committee stage debates will commence tomorrow and continue until November 27 according to the parliamentary calendar.

Budget 2026 represents the fourth budget under the MADANI Government and the first under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

Dubbed the ‘People’s Budget’, it allocates RM470 billion in total public expenditure.

Operating expenses account for RM338.2 billion while development receives RM81 billion.

Additional investments include RM30 billion from government-linked investment companies.

Public-private partnerships contribute RM10 billion to the budget allocation.

Federal statutory bodies and Minister of Finance Incorporated companies provide RM10.8 billion.

The parliamentary sitting will resume tomorrow for committee stage discussions. – Bernama
