Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin cruise into second round of Kumamoto Masters, joined by several other Malaysian pairs in Japan badminton tournament
KUALA LUMPUR: National professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani made a strong start at the Kumamoto Masters in Japan today.
The world number four Malaysian duo comfortably defeated South Korea‘s Kang Min Hyuk-Ki Dong Ju 21-17, 21-13 in just 30 minutes.
Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin will next face either Japanese pairs Tori Aizawa-Daisuke Sano or Keiichiro Matsui-Katsuki Tamate for a quarter-final spot.
In women’s doubles action, Malaysian pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting created an upset by beating tournament fifth seeds Sieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu from Taiwan.
Xin Yee-Carmen secured their victory with scores of 22-20, 18-21, 21-10 after a hard-fought match.
The Malaysian duo will now meet Japan’s Riu Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara in the next round.
Several other Malaysian pairs also advanced in the tournament with convincing performances.
Tan Wee Kiong-Nur Azriyn Ayub defeated Taiwan’s Lai Po Yu-Tsai Fu Cheng 21-16, 21-14.
Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King overcame Chang Ko Chi-Po Li Wei from Taiwan 21-19, 21-12.
Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri beat Japan’s Shibata Kazuki-Naoki Yamada 21-19, 21-16.
Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi secured victory against Chen Zhi Ray-Lin Yu Chieh from Taiwan 21-18, 21-18.
However, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun fell to Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita 21-19, 21-18. – Bernama
