Malaysian Qariah Among Finalists In International Quran Recitation Tonight


KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s qariah (female Quran reciter) Wan Sofea Aini Wan Mohd Zahidi is among six finalists scheduled to recite in the final round of the 2025 International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) tonight.

In a Facebook post, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) said the event will be held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, starting at 8.45 pm.

“Let’s fill the hall and give our full support to our qariah,” the post read.

The other finalists are Mohamad Habil Walizada (Afghanistan), Kaiyrbay Dauken (Kazakhstan), Mohamad Mozammel Hossain (Canada), Nur Rahmiyatin Adhya (Indonesia) and Sansari Sos Yusof (Cambodia).

The session will be broadcast live on RTM TV1 and JAKIM’s official social media platforms starting 8.15 pm.

Held under the theme ‘Developing a MADANI Ummah’, the 65th edition of MTHQA runs from Aug 2 to 9, featuring 71 participants from 49 countries.

Winners in the Tilawah category will receive RM40,000, with the runner-up and third-place winners receiving RM30,000 and RM20,000 respectively, along with jewellery sponsored by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM).
