KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Embassy in Hungary has called on all Malaysians to remain proud of their homeland in conjunction with the 68th National Day and upcoming 62nd Malaysia Day celebrations.
At a Malaysia Madani gathering in Budapest, the embassy’s chargé d’Affaires, Vanitha Gopalakrishnan, said such events not only celebrate national milestones but also strengthen the bonds of unity among Malaysians living abroad.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Malaysian community for their achievements in Hungary, particularly in education and professional employment, and for their contributions to the country.
The event, which started at 6pm local time, marked a symbolic countdown to Merdeka, as it corresponded to midnight on Aug 31 in Malaysia. In line with the 2025 Merdeka theme, “Malaysia Madani, Rakyat Disantuni”, the gathering brought together Malaysians from all walks of life across Hungary to observe Merdeka and Malaysia Day.
The celebration began with Malaysians from across the country standing together to sing the national anthem, Negaraku. Guests were then treated to a spread of much-loved Malaysian delicacies, including satay, rendang, mee goreng, ayam percik, kerabu, and spring rolls.
The Ambang Merdeka celebration continued with a special Danube River cruise, symbolising the blending of Malaysian traditions with the Hungarian setting. On board, Malaysians waved flags and shared in the spirit of independence, creating an atmosphere of joy and solidarity that transcended geographical distance.
