Malaysia urges restraint and renewed dialogue in South Asia

: Malaysia is following with growing concern the rapid escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan and stresses the need for calm and dialogue, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

“We urge both sides to exercise maximum restraint and restore channels of communication.

“However tense the moment, diplomacy remains the surest path away from crisis,” the ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said in a statement.

It said Malaysia reiterates Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim’s call for a full and thorough investigation into the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, with a view to bringing any remaining perpetrators to justice.

It said that Malaysia reaffirms its support for all efforts aimed at de-escalation and meaningful dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Twenty-six people were killed in Indian-administered Kashmir when gunmen opened fire on tourists on April 22.
