KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will host the final round of the 2026 UCI Track Cycling World Cup, with the National Velodrome in Nilai set to stage the event from April 24-26.
The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill confirmed that the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) had awarded the rights, calling it a “historic moment” for both Malaysian and Asian cycling.
The competition will serve as a crucial qualifying platform for riders chasing points to secure berths at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“It has been 25 years since Malaysia last hosted the Track World Cup, back in 2001 in Ipoh. Now it is returning to our soil,” said Amarjit, who is also the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) president.
He added that hosting the event would strengthen Malaysia’s status as a cycling hub in Asia while giving local stars the chance to test themselves against the world’s best.
Two-time Olympic medallist Datuk Azizulhasni Awang and the in-form Shah Firdaus Sahrom are expected to spearhead the home charge in Nilai.
