KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — Malaysia, as a trading nation, will continue exploring new markets and strengthening relations with major economies to sustain growth and investment, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim yesterday.

He said Malaysia must maintain balanced engagement with both the West and the East, deepening ties with the United States while forging stronger alliances with and other regions.

“I was in a private conversation with US President Donald , and tomorrow morning, (will have) a private breakfast with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

“Yes, we have differences, but we cannot be compelled or dictated to follow any particular interest, except to represent our interest and to focus on economic fundamentals, which means business and investments,” he said at the Bloomberg Business Summit at Asean here yesterday.

, who is also the Finance Minister, said Malaysia would also broaden cooperation with Canada, South Africa, and Latin America as part of its efforts to diversify trade and investment opportunities.

He reiterated his call for Asean to enhance intra-regional trade and cooperation, particularly in digitalisation, connectivity, and maritime security, to unlock the region’s full economic potential. — Bernama
