Malaysia Showcases Cultural Heritage At National Day Reception In Geneva

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) – Malaysia’s cultural heritage was showcased at a National Day celebration in Geneva, where traditional performances and cuisine took centre stage before diplomats, international officials, and the Malaysian diaspora.

Co-hosted by Malaysia’s Permanent Missions to the United Nations in Geneva and to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the reception was held at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) headquarters on Friday and welcomed around 250 guests including members of the diplomatic community, representatives of international organisations and the Malaysian diaspora. 

Guests were treated to traditional dishes including Karipap (savoury curry puffs), Satay and Malaysia’s signature drink Teh Tarik, while cultural performances such as Tarian Selamat Datang, Joget and Zapin highlighted the country’s vibrant artistic traditions.

A promotional video for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 was also screened, showcasing Malaysia’s natural beauty, cultural diversity and renowned hospitality as an early invitation to international visitors.

“The event not only marked Malaysia’s National Day but also served as a platform to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties,” the mission said in a statement. 

In her remarks, Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Datuk Nadzirah Osman, highlighted the values of unity and the Malaysia Madani framework as guiding principles for national development.

She reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to multilateralism and underscored the country’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2025, with a focus on inclusivity and sustainability under the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
