KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — A Malaysian legal team has arrived in Amman, Jordan to assist Israeli human rights lawyers in securing the release of all Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers who were “captured” by the Israeli regime.
Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin said he, along with four other lawyers from the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA), landed in Jordan at 1pm local time yesterday, according to a report in BuletinTV3.
“I am here with fellow lawyers Azril Mohd Amin, Dir Kheizwan Kamaruddin, Luqman Mazlan and Ahmad Nazrin Abu Bakar.
“We will be working closely with the team of human rights lawyers from Israel representing all detained GSF participants,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
He added that the team will be issuing an official statement to the media today.
Reports said 12 Malaysian volunteers taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission to Gaza were detained by Israeli forces after the Zionist regime intercepted their vessel.
The Malaysians detained include singer Zizi Kirana who was on board the Huga; Haikal Abdullah, Muaz Zainal, Zulfadhli Khairudin and Rusydi Ramli from the Sirius; Heliza Helmi and Hazwani Helmi from the Hio; and Iylia Balqis, Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri and Sul Aidil from the Alma.
The most recent confirmed detainees are Farah Lee and Danish Nazram, who were on the Grande Blu.
According to tracking data from the Sumud Nusantara Control Centre (SNCC), the Grande Blu was intercepted at 12.58am Gaza time, while the Hio was stopped at 2.34am about 60 nautical miles off Gaza.
As of 7.50am Malaysian time, 17 Malaysians were reported to have lost contact with SNCC after their vessels were intercepted.
SNCC confirmed that ten vessels are currently under “attack” status, while another 13 have sent out “distress” signals.
