Malaysia seeks release of activists detained by Israel in Gaza mission

: The government is actively pursuing efforts to secure the immediate and unconditional release of nine Malaysian nationals detained by Israel.

These activists were participating in the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens To Gaza humanitarian mission when captured.

The Foreign Ministry stated that efforts are being undertaken through Malaysian embassies in Amman and Ankara to ensure consular access.

International legal teams are also involved in securing the swift and safe repatriation of the detained Malaysians.

The government is mobilising these efforts in cooperation with friendly countries, particularly Türkiye.

All nine Malaysians are reported to be in good health according to official statements.

The safety and welfare of all Malaysian citizens remain the utmost priority of the government.

The humanitarian mission involved about 150 activists from 25 countries aboard nine ships.

Israeli forces intercepted the Conscience and Umm Saad ships on October 8 when they were less than 120 nautical miles from Gaza.

The interception occurred at 10.50 am Malaysian time according to the ministry’s statement.

The activists were reportedly detained at the Ketziot Prison in the Negev region of Israel. – Bernama
