KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities will take stern action against any platform found trading Malaysians’ personal data, including the website “caghi.com”, which recently went viral for allegedly selling leaked information.

National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) chief executive officer Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajudin said the website had been on the authorities’ radar since 2022 and was using old data compiled from previous breaches.

“Based on investigations, it involves data prior to 2022,” he said.

Megat Zuhairy added that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has already blocked access to the site in Malaysia.

However, some individuals have attempted to bypass restrictions using virtual private networks (VPNs) or overseas servers.

He added that forensic investigations were ongoing to determine whether any new data had been compromised.

“So far, we have not found any recent information.

“However, if there is, immediate action will be taken, including official notifications, additional restrictions, and tracing the source of the leak,” he said.

Megat Zuhairy also said Malaysia was in the process of joining the Budapest Convention and the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime to facilitate information sharing with other countries.

“We can use these agreements to track and take action, especially against websites based abroad.

“At the same time, the government is finalising new cybercrime legislation to replace the Computer Crimes Act 1997,” he said.
