Malaysia has been appointed a member of Unesco’s executive board for the 2025-2029 term, education minister Fadhlina Sidek said tonight.
Fadhlina, president of the national commission for Unesco, said this success is a global recognition of Malaysia’s leadership, contributions, and capabilities in catalysing the agenda of global education, science and culture for the sake of a more sustainable and inclusive world.
“Representing Malaysia, I would like to express my appreciation to every Unesco member country that entrusted us with this responsibility,” she said in a statement.
She said Malaysia now held the responsibility of ensuring that the voices of developing nations, particularly those in Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia, would continue to be heard and respected.
It also showcased the nation’s continuous commitment to building a more inclusive, peaceful, and sustainable future for the generations to come.
“Through this mandate, Malaysia will play a strategic role in forming Unesco’s direction for the next four years, in line with the Malaysia Madani aspirations and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” she said.
