PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Defence and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) respect the Shah Alam High Court’s decision in ordering the exhumation of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Reserve Officers Training Unit (PALAPES) cadet officer Syamsul Haris Shamsudin’s body for a second post-mortem.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin gave an assurance that the MAF will extend its full cooperation to the authorities throughout the investigation to ensure justice for Syamsul Haris.
“The Ministry of Defence will continue to monitor the development of this case and leave it entirely to the authorities to complete the investigation in accordance with the prevailing legal principles,” he said in a statement here today.
Syamsul Haris, 22, died at Kota Tinggi Hospital on July 28 after undergoing training at the Battle Inoculation Shooting Range, Army Combat Training Centre in Ulu Tiram, Johor, and was buried at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery in Semenyih the following day.
Yesterday, the Shah Alam High Court directed that Syamsul Haris’s body be exhumed after his mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, filed an application on Aug 19, among others, seeking a second post-mortem and an inquest into her son’s death.
