MACC: Whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach key to fighting corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: The “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” approaches remain the core pillars in ensuring that efforts to combat corruption are implemented comprehensively and effectively.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said this as the MACC continues to play its role not only as an enforcement agency but also as a strategic partner in strengthening anti-corruption prevention and education nationwide.

“In terms of prevention, the MACC continues to enhance its approach through management advisory services, the development of integrity systems, as well as training and engagement with both public and private sector organisations,” he said in his speech at the Sarawak-level 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day (Hara) celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.

The event, officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to uphold integrity as the cornerstone of governance, in line with Sarawak’s public service transformation agenda.

The 2025 Hara programme, attended by around 500 civil servants — particularly frontliners and enforcement personnel from various federal and state agencies — aimed to strengthen the culture of integrity and raise awareness of the dangers of corruption.

The event also featured the recitation of the Malaysian Integrity Pledge, led by a representative of the civil service, symbolising a shared commitment to reject corruption and abuse of power in all its forms.

Participants later attended a Randau Integriti: Lead by Example session with Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, who shared his on-the-ground experiences in enforcement and the real challenges faced by frontline officers.

Also present were MACC Community Education Division director Datuk Ahmad Nizam Ismail and Sarawak MACC director Datuk Hasbilah Mohamad Salleh.
