MACC to prioritise asset recovery, large-scale cases over next five years

: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has set a clear, focused direction for the next five years, placing priority on tackling large-scale financial crimes, asset recovery, and firm action against government fund leakages.

Based on records over the past six years, the country is estimated to have suffered losses amounting to RM277 billion due to financial crimes involving the theft and leakage of public funds, underscoring the need for a more aggressive and high-impact enforcement approach.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the commission would continue to focus on high-profile, large-scale cases, particularly those involving the loss of national assets, in line with efforts to comprehensively tackle corrupt practices that harm the government.

He was speaking as a guest on the MACCfm segment SPRM 2026: Ke Mana Halatuju? at the MACCfm Studio, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here today.
