The ongoing investigation of former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is only 15% to 20% complete and will resume in two weeks, says Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki.
Azam said MACC had asked Ismail to prepare several documents needed to facilitate the investigation.
“The case is ongoing. As I mentioned before, it involves his declaration of assets. We have asked him to prepare certain documents, and once he does, we will call him in again, likely in about two weeks,” Azam said at an anti-corruption conference here today.
He said investigations involving asset declarations typically require more time, as notices that have been issued must account for the sources of their declared assets to the agency’s satisfaction.
“Currently, we are about 15% to 20% into the investigation. He has declared one part (of his assets), but what matters is for us to verify whether the declaration is accurate or not,” Azam said.
Last Friday, the Bera MP spent four hours at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya, marking his ninth day of questioning.
