Putrajaya, 5 August – The Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (PPPR) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today presented a proposal for strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on a nationwide values-based program to strengthen anti-corruption awareness and education in institutions of higher learning.
The initiative seeks to broaden the impact of corruption prevention efforts by actively engaging academics, administrative staff, and students across the higher education sector.
Chair of the PPPR, Datin Yasmin Ahmad Merican, said that MOHE was identified as a key strategic partner to the program given the Ministry’s broad reach and critical role in shaping Malaysia’s future leaders across all facets of the economy.
“Education continues to be one of the most effective levers for long-term corruption prevention. This initiative seeks MOHE’s collaboration as the students in our universities today will be the future drivers of good governance tomorrow,” she said during the engagement session with the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Diraja Zambry Abdul Kadir, at his office in Putrajaya.
The PPPR members who also shared their professional and academic perspectives on the program included Prof. Dato’ Dr Asma Ismail, Prof. Dr Sarjit Singh, Prof. Dr Haidar Dziyauddin, Tn. Haji Ali Hassan and En. Kamaruddin Mape.
In principle, the Ministry expressed support for the PPPR’s values-driven proposal and welcomed the integration of the program into the existing curriculum and learning modules currently deployed across Malaysian universities.
The PPPR is one of five independent oversight bodies under the MACC, comprising representatives from civil society, academia, the media, business, and the professional sectors. The panel advises the MACC on strengthening community education and promoting greater public awareness and ownership of corruption prevention initiatives.
Also present at the meeting were:
• Dato’ Dr Hj Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), MOHE
• Datuk Professor Dr Azlinda Azman, Director-General of Higher Education
• Datuk Ahmad Nizam Ismail, Director, Community Education Division, MACC
