KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has been directed to re-examine the entire electrical infrastructure at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after an overheating cable caused an electricity disruption at Terminal 2 yesterday.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the measure was important to ensure operations would not be interrupted.

“I directed MAHB to review the entire electrical infrastructure so that if anything happens, our operations are not interrupted and electricity will always be supplied,” he said in a video uploaded to Facebook.

“What’s important is that we need to ensure the backup system is activated immediately, no matter the situation. They took 28 minutes to restore electricity supply, something that’s too long and too hard to accept,” he added.

MAHB confirmed yesterday that a temporary electricity supply disruption had occurred at KLIA Terminal 2 due to a flashover incident involving a cable termination. The company said airport operations were not affected as vital systems continued to function without interruption.
