Light aircraft crash kills 2 in Spain

MADRID, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Two people were killed Saturday when a light aircraft crashed in Spain’s Valencia region, the regional government confirmed.

The accident occurred near the town of Requena at approximately 11:25 a.m., when the plane went into a steep dive shortly after takeoff and crashed into nearby fields, killing both occupants.

The aircraft was completely destroyed by fire. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Weather conditions at the time were reported to be favorable.

Both victims were men from the nearby city of Valencia. According to local newspaper Las Provincias, one of them was a 70-year-old man with close ties to Requena Aerodrome, a private facility near Requena. The aerodrome has a runway primarily used for training and private flights.
