KOTA KINABALU, Nov 12 — Sabah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has reportedly withdrawn his candidacy for the Tempasuk state seat in Kota Belud just two days ahead of the 17th Sabah state election.
Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin confirmed the move, saying Rahman had personally informed the party of his decision.
“We will replace him with Kota Belud Umno division chief Azwan Norjan,” said Bung.
Asked about the reasons behind Rahman’s withdrawal, Bung declined to comment, suggesting the media approach Rahman directly for clarification.
Rahman, who is former Kota Belud MP and ex-federal minister, could not be reached for immediate comment.
The Tempasuk seat is currently held by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s Datuk Arshad Bistari from Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, who had won the constituency under a Barisan-Umno ticket.
Bung announced Abdul Rahman Dahlan’s candidacy on Sunday for the Tempasuk seat while GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced Arshad as the coalition’s candidate today.
